Meet Eric

Eric was only seven when he and his little sister arrived with his mom at what was then known as YW Sheriff King Home. With only a few personal items, scared and uncertain where they were going or what was next, the one thing Eric knew at that time was they were together and safe.

After arriving at YW’s door, Eric and his family were connected with a case worker who settled them into their room, ensured they had clothes, personal items, and access to healthy food.  Eric finally felt safe and secure.

During their three week stay at the shelter, Eric learned that families could look different from the violence he had witnessed his entire life. That was a pivotal turning point for him. When he became an adult with a family of his own, he decided that the best way to help others was to become an advocate and financial supporter for YW Calgary, which helps more than 6,000 individuals each year.

As T.S. Eliot said, “Home is where one starts from.” YW Calgary provides the security of home for women and children who are embarking on a new start, knowing that they are embraced by a village of supporters like you!
